Lottery funded financial aid has helped me achieve so many goals in my life!
I am, first of all, a young, single mother pursuing my Bachelor of Science in
Education from the University of Memphis. I first attended Southwest Tennessee
Community College and with the help of the Tennessee Lottery HOPE Scholarship
received my Associate of Science in Teaching. Now that I have moved on to the
University of Memphis, the HOPE Scholarship has enabled me to focus on my
education and the flexibility to raise my son. From the money granted to me from
the Tennessee Lottery, I am able to make myself a competitive and productive
member of society and a role model for my son. Once I receive my degree from
the University of Memphis, I want to teach second grade or special education.
I want to instill in my students the love and passion I have for learning and encourage
them to further their education so they too can reach their potential.
Through the HOPE Scholarship, I am reaching out to the next generation of learners.

My dad died when I was 12 years old. We lost our home,
and my Mom was left with a lot of bills. She worked hard to make
sure my little brother and I had what we needed.
She even took part-time jobs so she could give us some of the things we wanted.
I am now 27, working and living at home. I got a car, I go to school,
and I help Mom pay the bills. The Tennessee Education Lottery has made it
possible for me to go to college.
Next spring I will earn my Master's Degree.
My relatives are all hard working people, and I will be the first to get a college degree.

Due to the assistance of the Tennessee Lottery funds for education in Tennessee,
we have been able to send our oldest child to college for an electrical degree.
My son, Brandon, has overcome many obstacles while in school.
He was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a form of Autism,
which has made it harder for him to learn.
Thanks to the HOPE Scholarship, he has been able to go to a school
that can help him pursue what he wants to do for a living and be able to
become self-sufficient and successful in his life pursuits.
